GENERAL CARGO: BUILDING HOPE

Currently, 41% of families in urban areas cannot afford even the most basic housing available on the market. Additionally, 20% of Panama’s population lives in multidimensional poverty. The minimum monthly income required to attempt access to market housing—without savings capacity—is $767.24.

In response to this reality, General Cargo—a Panamanian company with over 30 years of commitment to our community—has partnered with TECHO Panama and, for the first time, contributed its support by helping build homes in Las Camelias, Alcalde Díaz.

TECHO is an organization present in 19 countries across Latin America, working to overcome poverty through collaboration between local communities and young volunteers.

“For us, it has been truly rewarding to help build hope for families striving to improve their lives. Sharing time with this wonderful community also brought us closer to the reality of our country.”
— Mónica Chaluja, General Manager, General Cargo

TRANSFORMING LIVES

We recognize the impact that a safe and healthy environment has on human development. The construction of these homes provides a positive living space for these families, reducing the dirt and dust previously caused by having dirt floors, and creating a healthier and more dignified environment for their well-being.

We believe that every action we take has the power to transform lives. This is just the beginning of a journey of continued support for our community.
